Founder, Prophet William S. Crowdy
1847-1908
Born in St. Mary's County, Maryland on August 11, 1847. At age 16 he left home to avoid the oppression of Slavery and joined the United States Army and served in the Civil War from 1863 to 1865.
After the war Prophet Crowdy moved to Kansas City, Missouri where he worked as a cook for the Santa Fe Railroad and U.S surveyor’s office. He married Lovey Yates Higgins and from this union was born three children, Mattie Leah, Isaac and August.
Prophet Crowdy later purchased a farm in Guthrie, Oklahoma. While in Guthrie, Oklahoma, on Tuesday, September 13, 1892, the Lord God appeared unto William S. Crowdy in a vision. He began preaching and communicating the will of God to Mankind.

History - The Church of GOD and Saints of Christ:
Accepting the call from GOD, and guided by the Holy Spirit, Prophet Crowdy left his home and began preaching in the streets of Lawrence and Emporia, Kansas. He received a vision and, in the dream, and he said, “And he saw an inscription upon the table and the name written on it, 'Church of GOD and Saints of Christ.' according to 1st Corinthians 1:1-2.”
On November 8, 1896 the Church of GOD and Saints of Christ was incorporated in Emporia, Kansas. On December 16, 1902, The Church of GOD and Saints of Christ was documented as the 667th religious organization in the Registry of Churches in the United States of America, in the Library of Congress. Prophet W.S. Crowdy said “I, William S Crowdy, was shown by the Seven Keys the work of our GOD pertaining to our salvation. He is the author of ‘The Bible Gospel Told - The Revelation of GOD Revealed.’
By the year 1908, the Church of GOD and Saints of Christ; having been established in many territories and cities in the United States of America, flourished with members of different races, ethnicities, and backgrounds. Ministers were commissioned to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and assigned to dedicated territories in the United States as well as in Canada, Bermuda, South Africa and into the Caribbean islands beginning with Jamaica. The membership has continued to flourish in number and today has a tabernacle in England as well.
History - Hagerstown Tabernacle No.2
Elder Royal Guy was the former associate minister of Tabernacle No. 1 of Baltimore, Maryland. On Wednesday, Abib (April) 20th, 1966, Elder Guy was commissioned by the late Bishop John Wesley Dickerson and CEO of the Church of GOD and Saints of Christ in Newark New Jersey and was sent to Hagerstown, Maryland. He was later appointed Chief Evangelist by the late Bishop Stanley Harmon in 1973. Chief Evangelist Royal Guy continued to preach the Word of GOD faithfully to everyone until his demised in 1995. His son, Evangelist Mark A. Guy became the next pastor.
The Local Tabernacle of Hagerstown was reunited in Galestown, Maryland in Ethanim (October) 2002 with the national Church of GOD and Saints of Christ in Cleveland Ohio. Evangelist Mark Guy was re-ordained into the gospel ministry of Jesus Christ and re-commissioned with the national church under the leadership of Bishop Robert Dennis Grant and CEO of the Church of GOD and Saints of Christ.
